Bolivar Technical College students may apply for scholarships, grants, or loans to assist them with school expenses. Scholarships and grants are sums of money given to an eligible student to be applied toward the student's educational costs. Students do not repay scholarships or grants but must meet specific requirements to receive them. Various loans are also available to assist students with educational costs. These loans must be repaid according to specific terms.

Bolivar Technical College's administrative office staff will provide information and various forms needed to determine financial aid eligibility. Financial aid forms must be accurate and complete. Students applying for financial aid, financial assistance or scholarships must verify program eligibility. Once status of eligibility is established, an award letter will be sent to the student.

Though applicants are encouraged to seek financial aid, students should not rely solely on these monies to support themselves throughout the academic year. Students receiving any form of financial aid are required to meet standards for satisfactory academic progress and attendance. Proof of such progress on a quarterly basis is verified prior to any disbursements of financial aid. Failure to meet satisfactory academic progress or satisfactory attendance requirements may result in the termination or reduction of financial aid. Though Bolivar Technical College's financial aid officer is responsible for accurate distribution, explanation, documentation with validation of federal financial aid requirements, it is the student's responsibility to comply with all requests in a timely fashion if the student wishes to continue receiving benefits.

Student Loan Programs

Federal aid grants are awarded on a fiscal year basis beginning July 1 and ending June 30, so some applicants may need to complete the application process twice during an academic or calendar year.

When completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on-line (www.fasfa.ed.gov), TCTI's school code is: 035793. Once eligibility is determined, an electronic report will be sent or mailed to both the student and financial aid director. Please note that FAFSA'S submitted may require additional verification documentation from the student. Award letters will be sent to the student upon completion of those documents.

PELL Grant

To be eligible for a federal Pell Grant, students must complete application, prove U.S. citizenship or permanent residence, sign a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), not owe a refund on federal grant, not be in default on a federal loan and maintain satisfactory progress in school. The Pell Grant provides monies to eligible students for each undergraduate year. Eligibility is determined by the Expected Family Contribution factor (EFC), the Student Aid Index, cost of attendance, full or part time status, and whether one attends school for a full academic year or less. Pell Grant awards need not be repaid.

Scholarships

Bolivar Technical College awards private scholarships on a year-round basis. To apply for a scholarship, the student must request and submit a scholarship application. Local business and individual donors provide the funds for these scholarships.

Scholarships are available only when a student is initially accepted. After the scholarship application is submitted to the admissions representative for review of its completeness, it is forwarded to the scholarship committee. To be considered, a student must demonstrate a financial need. The amount of monies awarded will vary according to the scholarship funds available. An award letter will be mailed directly to the student notifying him/her of scholarship award.

Scholarship monies will be applied to the student's account for tuition, books, and/or supplies. All scholarships will be applied at the end of the student's program. If a student who receives a scholarship drops from the program of enrollment and/or is terminated from the program, he/she forfeits the scholarship. Any scholarship monies granted will be rescinded and cannot be used to pay any tuition/fees owed.
